Who Have I Become? Shame, Identity, and Healing Your Heart
So much of our suffering comes from trying to control how others see us. We shapeshift, self-abandon, and chase ideals in order to avoid being labeled in ways that feel unbearable. The problem? These “unwanted identities” quietly run our lives, pulling us away from who we really are. Whether we’re aware of them or not, these unwanted identities are in control of our thoughts, behaviors, and many times how we feel.
In this experiential and interactive session, bestselling author and coach Andrea Owen will guide you through one of her most transformative exercises, drawn from her training as a Daring Way™ facilitator (methodology based on the work of Dr. Brené Brown).
Together, we’ll:
- Uncover the identities that shape how you show up every day: the versions of yourself you strive to be and the ones you work hard to avoid.
- Discover how shame keeps these identities in place: fueling cycles of perfectionism, people-pleasing, overworking/overachieving, and self-abandonment.
- Recognize when you’re being driven by shame (aka, the person you fear you’ve become): so you can choose differently in your thoughts, behaviors, and connections with others.
- Practice compassion as a way to break the loop: using empathy and self-kindness as tools to stop proving, perfecting, performing, and pleasing, and return to a more grounded, authentic way of being.
Through writing, reflection, and optional sharing, you’ll uncover the hidden patterns that keep you stuck and learn how self-compassion and empathy—not perfection and silence—become the doorway back to your soul.

Andrea Owen is an author, global keynote speaker, and professional certified life coach with nearly 20 years of experience in the personal growth and wellness space. She has taught hundreds of thousands of people practical tools for courage, resilience, and authentic living through her speaking, coaching, three books, and her podcast, which has been downloaded nearly five million times.
